Bringing awareness and attention of the mind to the present.

There are many ways in which we can practice being mindful, while we are eating, listening, moving, even thinking. In order to start the process of mindfulness we first have to pause, this is an important step. When we pause we can observe and notice the things we may have not been able to recognize before.
The next step is to scan. Scan the body for sensations or scan the thoughts. No need to find deeper meaning in this step, instead, value what its like to acknowledge. Begin to observe the physical and mental sensations without judgment or need to change as it is. You can even observe these things while speaking or when someone else is speaking. Taking time to listen with all of your senses (smell, taste, touch, sound, sight)
Then create space to let feelings in. This does not mean you need to identify with them or put meaning to them. This is more like a breathe of fresh air, you might even be inclined to take a deep breathe. Allow. This is when we may want to react to our thoughts or discomforts. We allow the thoughts or feelings to just be. Then, return back to the first step, pause. Listen and scan. Breathe. Repeat.
When we become mindful or practice mindful meditation in our daily lives we can reduce symptoms of mental suffering. We can free ourselves from habitual blocks in the way we treat ourselves or others. It helps the way we communicate with each other and it also enriches our lives by strengthening the mental muscle of compassion. It takes practice, mindfulness is a lifelong journey.
