Sedated by sugar

For my whole life I have had a sweet tooth. If I ever had a choice of savory or sweet I would choose sweet. Within the last three years I have tried to change my dietary habits of indulging in treats because of Candida. Candida has taken over my life causing me physical and mental pain until I finally came to the point of desperation. I had to choose a new lifestyle of preparing all of my own meals and reading labels of every item in the store, luckily it has paid off. I have finally pulled back on the amount of sweet things I eat and I have noticed a huge difference in my regularity of digestion. I cut out processed sugar, honey, agave, coconut sugar, dates and fruits with high amounts of sugar. I stopped eating gluten and started eating more dark green vegetables. I even stopped drinking coffee which was a huge sacrifice, but I found new rituals that brought me joy and that is how I made it through to see results. It has been two months since this sugar free journey began, I think more clearly, I have more energy, I don't get sore after exercise and best of all I can have sex. Candida has created an uncomfortable barrier with my body and sex. My self confidence diminished because of chronic vaginal infections. I basically endured vaginosis or a yeast imbalance between every sexual encounter with my partner. If it wasn't the odor it was the itching and burning. It was not only hard on me but also on my relationship. I had to make a big change and be strong. Diets can be isolating, especially for a foodie like me, but the preparation was key for success. Through honoring the process of this diet and lifestyle change I began to see a light! It felt damn good. I felt empowered to share my story to help others that may be going through personal health issues too. Talking about it creates clarity and community even when you feel so alone. We are one.
