Ayurveda: An Ancient Healing system
How do we heal? What is the true definition of Health? How are symptoms treated?
Physical treatment? Mental? Emotional? It is all of them. We heal with understanding that mind, body and spirit are connected. It is always about balance. Balance and awareness are the key elements to Ayurveda. The yin and yang, the fire and the water the air and the earth. Ayurveda has a name for our elemental make up that helps us come back into balance. Doshas, our elemental code, knowing your dosha is like a road map for a deeper understanding of how to balance yourself. There are three viable Doshas that each person embodies, some more prominent than others. Vata which is composed of the elements Air + Ether, Pitta which is Fire + Water and Earth made of Earth + Water. These qualities exist in our personalities, the foods we eat, the way our bodies look and even what we are attracted too. Ayurveda not only teaches us about ourselves but how to live in harmony with nature, the seasons and circadian rhythms. Now more than ever our fast-paced society needs to remember how to slow down. Ayurveda says, "we are what we digest" not "we are what we eat". This means that a very key point to our health is in our gut. The gut-brain connection has been known in Ayurveda for centuries but only recently being discovered through science. May we begin to use mindfulness to create harmony in our life. Mindful eating, speaking, loving and living. Are we getting the nutrients we need and absorbing it? Are we digesting our food properly? Ayurveda allows us to eat everything we desire but it more about how we eat it. Proper food combination, connecting to our food consciously with presence and looking at our life with a wide lens. Searching for the root of the issue causing us discomfort rather than the quick fix.
